Windows Virus Warning
When downloading the Mod Loader, windows may detect it as a virus and refuse to let you download it. This is not a Virus. The Exe is unregistered with windows since it is custom built, and since it moves your files around, windows detects it as a possibility that it could be used for malicious intent.
When downloading the Mod Loader, Windows Security may incorrectly flag it as a threat.
This is a false positive.

On behalf of Warhammer Workshop, The Wiki, and the Modding Discord Community, we swear on the Holy Emperor of Terra that this is in no way a Virus. If you chose not to believe us you can always install mods manually using How to Install Mods.
The reason for this is that the Mod Loader is a custom, unsigned executable.

Unsigned applications are not registered with Microsoft, and by default, Windows treats any program that moves or modifies files — as the Mod Loader must — as potentially risky. This is standard behavior for any unsigned third-party tool.
To get around this, you can open your Windows Security page (which you can find by pressing the windows key and type in the search bar "Windows Security"), and navigate to "Protection History". You will see a list of recently blocked or quarantined downloads with a threat level listed next to a drop down arrow. Press the Dropdown arrow on them until you see one resembling the image on the right.

It should say "SM2_Mod_Loader.zip" at the end of the file path you downloaded the Mod Loader into (Typically your Downloads folder.) In the bottom corner it should have a button that says "Actions". When you press it a drop down will appear and you will be able to select "Allow". Now return to your browser and restart the download. It should fully download and you can continue to the next step.

If you are uncomfortable bypassing this warning, you may manually install mods by following this guide.
To allow the download:
Open Windows Security (press the Windows key and search for "Windows Security").
Navigate to Protection History.
Locate the blocked or quarantined item that resembles the image above.
Expand the entry and verify that it references SM2_Mod_Loader.zip.
Click Actions, then select Allow.
Restart the download.

Once the mod Loader is downloaded, you need to extract its contents. There should be a readme.txt and an EXE titled "SM2_Mod_Loader_V2.exe" inside of the ZIP file. Extract this anywhere you want.
After downloading, extract the contents of the ZIP file. Inside you will find:

Once extracted, locate the SM2_Mod_Loader_V2.exe and launch it. Again windows will try to stop you and you will be presented with the image on the right. Press "More info", and then press "Run Anyway".

When you do this a file explorer window will pop up, in the top corner, it should say "Select Space Marine 2 Game Folder". Navigate within this file explorer instance to wherever your SM2 Game Directory is. Select the folder Titled "Space Marin 2" and press "Select Folder". The Mod Loader interface should now open.

Any mods previously in your Games mod folder should be visible in the space at the top with a checkbox to activate or deactivate the mod.

Play Modded
The "Play Modded" button will launch the game with all active mods enabled. It does this by moving any PAK files in your mods folder into a mods folder in the Mod Loader's own directory. You can access this directory by looking in the folder for the SM2 Mod Loader, and looking in "client_pc\root\mods". It will then look for the mods you have Activated in the space above, and move them all into the mods folder in your SM2 directory, which you can view by going to your SM2 directory and looking in "client_pc\root\mods".
Launches the game with all selected mods enabled.

Play Vanilla
The "Play Vanilla" button will launch the game in vanilla regardless of any mods set to "Active". It does this by moving any PAK files in your mods folder into a mods folder in the Mod Loader's own directory. You can access this directory by looking in the folder for the SM2 Mod Loader, and looking in "client_pc\root\mods". If you now check your SM2 directory and navigate to "client_pc\root\mods" you will see the folder should be empty. Meaning no mods are installed.
Launches the game without any active mods.

All mod files are temporarily removed from the game's directory, ensuring a clean vanilla experience.

Install Mod
The "Install Mod" button is what allows you to add new mods to the launcher. You can add them to your SM2 Mods folder manually and they will appear in the mod loader but you can also use this button to select them from wherever you have them downloaded, and the Launcher will create a copy of them them in its own mods folder, and then move them to your SM2 Mods folder automatically when you activate the mod and press the "Play Modded" button.
Adds new mods to the Mod Loader.

The "Delete Selected" button will allow you to delete installed mods from your computer. To delete mods, select them in the Space Above and press the "Delete Selected" button. A confirmation window will pop up and you can press "OK". The original download of your mod will still be wherever you downloaded it too but the copy the Mod Loader made will be completely deleted off your computer.
Deletes selected mods from the Mod Loader's managed folder.

This does not affect your original downloaded mod files outside of the Mod Loader.

Backup Save
Backup Save
The "Backup Save" button will copy your current save data files into a "Backup" folder within the Mod Loader's Directory. This will save both modded progress and other information so that you can return to Vanilla without worrying about losing your data.
Creates a backup of your current save data.

Save backups are stored within the Mod Loader's Backup directory.

Restore Save
Restore Save
The "Restore Save" button will apply your currently backed up save that was created by pressing the "Backup Save" button, to your space marine save data folder. Re applying all of your progress you had made the last time you played with mods installed.
Restores the most recent backup created by the Backup Save feature.

The Mod Loader[edit | edit source]

The Warhammer Workshop team has developed a powerful and user-friendly Mod Loader to simplify installing and managing mods for Space Marine 2.

Downloading[edit | edit source]

You can download the Mod Loader here.

Windows Virus Warning[edit | edit source]

When downloading the Mod Loader, Windows Security may incorrectly flag it as a threat. This is a false positive.

Installation[edit | edit source]

After downloading, extract the contents of the ZIP file. Inside you will find:

readme.txt

SM2_Mod_Loader_V3.exe (or a newer version)

Extract the files to any folder of your choice. Launch SM2_Mod_Loader_V3.exe.

If Windows displays a warning:

Click More Info. Then select Run Anyway.

A file browser will open prompting you to locate your Space Marine 2 installation folder.

Navigate to the folder titled Space Marine 2. Select it and click Select Folder. The Mod Loader interface will now open. Any previously installed mods will be visible with checkboxes to enable or disable them.

Installing Mods with the Mod Loader[edit | edit source]

For detailed mod installation instructions using the Mod Loader, see this section.

Features of the Mod Loader[edit | edit source]

The main interface includes the following features:

Play Modded[edit | edit source]

The Mod Loader moves activated PAK files into the game's active mod folder (client_pc\root\mods).

Mods remain safely stored in the Mod Loader's own directory when inactive.

Note: The Mod Loader is not responsible for game crashes or instability caused by mods.

Note 2: If pressing "Play Modded" does not launch the game with mods, you have installed the launcher incorrectly, and will need to delete and re install it following the instructions above.

Play Vanilla[edit | edit source]

Launches the game without any active mods.

All mod files are temporarily removed from the game's directory, ensuring a clean vanilla experience.

Install Mod[edit | edit source]

Adds new mods to the Mod Loader.

Mods can be manually added to the Mods folder, or

Use the Install Mod button to select and import mods into the Mod Loader automatically.

For more details, see this section.

Delete Selected[edit | edit source]

Deletes selected mods from the Mod Loader's managed folder.

This does not affect your original downloaded mod files outside of the Mod Loader.

Backup Save[edit | edit source]

Creates a backup of your current save data.

Save backups are stored within the Mod Loader's Backup directory.

Restore Save[edit | edit source]

Restores the most recent backup created by the Backup Save feature.
