Granted I may come across grumpier, or more agitated rather than lighthearted, but know I’m coming from a place of love with these entries. Again, I love video games and even though these memes bring up a good point in contradicting logic, I wouldn’t give up gameplay just to make the world make more sense. That would detract from what actually makes video games the greatest medium out there. Anyway, before you read on know that some of these entries contain SPOILERS . It’s telling, then, that I was able to find talking about Grand Theft Auto V‘s improvements so easy, eating up almost a thousand words on detailing all the advancements. More than perhaps any other game out there, GTA V could easily have gotten away with churning out a slightly better looking game and calling it a day. That a game could be guaranteed money no matter how slapdash the production, and still go above and beyond what other publishers have done this year, is incredibly laudable, and at least worth a golf clap. Even if you don’t care for the series, one cannot deny the pride Rockstar appears to have in its games. While I’d love 60fps, and could do with the overall controls feeling a little bit tighter, I can’t deny that Rockstar’s put the effort into this one, and it’s one of the few double downs I’d feel relatively confident recommending to those who’ve already played it. Originally released in September 2013, GTAV broke practically every sales record and was lauded in almost every circle. When its "definitive" edition debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during last holiday season, many were questioning if Rockstar would be able to pull it off on PC considering the numerous delays and spotty track record. While they made huge promises and had all the potential in the world, whether or not they were able to optimize Grand Theft Auto V on a bevy of current and last generation machines was still up in the air. While it may have taken Rockstar 19 months to bring their biggest and best game to PC, the result was well worth the wait.

Gamers can't seem to get enough of exploring the vast worlds provided by open world games, as evidenced by the success of recent open world games like Horizon: Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . Looking to the future, there are plenty of other open world games on the horizon that are brimming with potential, such as Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 . If a Phoenix Down can revive a character, then why is Aeris dead? Aeris' death has plagued us for ages, with some even going so far as to track down ways to actually revive her. While using hacks, mods, and cheats can do it, canonically Aeris is dead so it's time to let it go. After finding out that former accomplice Michael is alive and well under a different name, he decides to drive down to Los Santos to pay him a visit. Soon all three characters are thrust into the plans of a crooked FiB agent (guess what initialism that’s a play on) and some notorious gangsters in the city and have to work together to survive and bring in a handsome payday while they’re at it.

There are plenty of things you can do in GTA V that might throw people off. Rampaging is pretty common if you have nothing better to do and while it’s just mindless carnage, it can still be pretty fun. But one of the most common acts of violence in the entire series happens too often as a simple traffic accident. The driving controls in GTA V are great, but that doesn’t make you a master driver. More often than not, if you’re going really fast, you’re going to hit something. It often ends up being innocent pedestrians, crossing the street just as you’re gunning it – completely ignoring the red light. It may sometimes be intentional, but more often than not these end up being genuine accide

Speaking of Geralt, let’s talk about some RPG tropes. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt isn’t the only one guilty of this, but it’s my most recent example. Okay, so you’re tasked with finding your adopted daughter of sorts, Ciri, before an evil force finds her. Throughout the game, this sentiment is blasted into Geralt’s head repeatedly as an urgent mission where a second lost could prove fatal for Ciri. With that being said, you can mess around for countless hours doing remedial tasks like hunting monsters, playing cards, or locating a crazy old woman’s pot. It’s an open world RPG, so there needs to be stuff to do in order to expand the gameplay and I’m fine with that. Perhaps don’t patronize the player for taking their time though. It’s disheartening, although I’d rather feel bad than having a time limit implemented like in Dead Risi

The less said about the DLC's story the better, but the exploration of personal obsession, the early days of computing, and Alan Turing's efforts in particular are the exact kind of storytelling that made BioShock such a triumph for those longing for more thoughtful shooters. Rockstar Games has made a habit of impressing with their DLC (more on that later), but Red Dead Redemption 's best add-on was as shocking as it was impressive.
